Tokyo, a city always on the cutting edge, yet steeped in traditionalism will enchant and astound you. The western influence is evidenced here by the fashion and technological advancements, while the Japanese age-old traditions still flourish. The Imperial Palace, the shopping Mecca of Ginza, the world's largest fish market in Tsukiji and the techno- geeky capital of Akihabara are all located in Central Tokyo. Plan one full day to tour here, starting with the fish market early in the morning (when the smell is not so bad) and finishing in Ginza, where you can stroll at your leisure and catch a bite to eat. On another day, visit a Shinto shrine where you can buy a fortune, then fasten it, along with the thousands of others that flutter in the breeze like leaves, to a string-strung frame. Make the time to visit a traditional Japanese bath. The bravest bathe with the locals while some compensation has been made for the tourists that visit here. Regardless of your fearlessness, or lack of, your muscles may be screaming for the relaxation and warmth of a public bath after you have explored all the nooks and crannies of Tokyo.
